I visited the James Fuentes Gallery on Melrose Avenue to see film director Jim Jarmusch’s solo exhibition, “Some More Collages”. It was worthwhile to spend my Saturday morning in Jarmusch’s world through his collages. As an independent filmmaker, he is known to imbue his work with minimalistic and impassive humor, for which I have an affinity. It’s the opposite of slapstick humor to the extreme, which I appreciate. Additionally, his films are rough around the edges, a style that makes his work so attractive. The medium in which he chose to convey his artistic vision—collages—makes sense. It’s the equivalent of noncommercial films versus blockbuster films backed by a major studio, the unpolished film versus CGI, and Anthony Bourdain versus Guy Fieri.
